Why we use magnesium glycinate
A form chosen for a drink you take around training.
Magnesium glycinate
What PSN uses
Gentle on the stomach.
Magnesium oxide
Cheap, but much less of it is absorbed and it often causes loose stools.
Why 150 mg per serving
Enough to top up your diet, well under the upper limit.
- 150 mg
Per PSN serving
Tops up what many people don’t get from food.
- 36%
Of the daily value
The daily value for magnesium is 420 mg.
- 350 mg
Upper limit from supplements
A day’s magnesium from supplements should stay under this.
What to know
Gentle form, clearly stated dose
The label lists the elemental magnesium amount, 150 mg, not just the weight of the compound.
Supports normal muscle and nerve function*
That’s the role magnesium plays in the body.
No cramp, sleep or anxiety claims
A Cochrane review doesn’t support magnesium for cramps, and evidence for sleep or anxiety is weak, so we don’t claim them.
Who should check first
A few things to know before you use it.
No more than 2 servings a day
Count magnesium from other supplements too: 3 servings (450 mg) would go over the 350 mg upper limit. Too much can cause loose stools.
Kidney disease
Check with your healthcare provider first.
Antibiotics and osteoporosis medications
Magnesium can interfere with some of them, so space them a few hours apart and ask your pharmacist.
Quick answers about magnesium
How much magnesium is in PSN Electrolytes?
150 mg per serving, about 36% of the daily value.
What is the upper limit for magnesium?
350 mg a day from supplements (magnesium from food doesn’t count toward it). Don’t take more than 2 servings of PSN Electrolytes a day, and count other supplements.
Why glycinate instead of magnesium oxide?
Glycinate is gentle on the stomach. Oxide is cheaper, but much less is absorbed and it often causes loose stools.
Does magnesium prevent cramps?
The research doesn’t support it: a Cochrane review found no clear benefit for typical muscle cramps, so we don’t make that claim.
